Mid Atlantic School of Marine Upholstery provides hands-on marine upholstery training, boat upholstery classes, marine canvas fabrication instruction, and industrial sewing machine education. Students learn cushion patterning, foam fabrication, marine vinyl installation, custom boat seating, marine enclosure construction, and professional upholstery techniques through practical, real-world projects.

Located in Surf City, NC, we offer intensive week-long training in all aspects of marine upholstery and boat canvas fabrication.
Our program is designed for students who want to learn a skilled trade and launch their own marine upholstery or canvas business. Classes are limited to four students to ensure personalized, hands-on instruction.

David Peed
David Peed is a professional marine upholsterer and canvas fabricator with decades of hands-on experience in the industry. His work spans custom boat seating, Bimini tops, T-tops, enclosures, and full interior refits.
David's portfolio at CustomCanvas showcases the breadth of his craftsmanship — from precision vinyl work to complex multi-panel enclosures built to withstand the marine environment.
His teaching approach is direct and practical: students work on real projects from day one, learning the same techniques David uses in his professional shop.
David has been featured in Topsail Magazine for his contributions to the local marine industry and his commitment to passing on skilled trade knowledge to the next generation.
